Founded by Pip Hills in 1983, the Scotch Malt Whisky Society of America was, and still is, fueled by a love of single-malt Scotch whisky. Far from popular in the U.S. at that time, Scotch whisky was often left to languish in warehouses as prominent industry leaders felt there was simply no demand for it.
Pip Hills thought they were wrong, and time proved him right. From a small group of whisky lovers, Scotch Malt Whisky Society of America (SMWSA) has become a huge organization. It now has over 40,000 discerning members who come together to share their love of Scotch. If you’re a whisky lover or you know someone who is, check out the SMWSA website.
- Memberships: SMWSA offers monthly and annual memberships to people who are passionate about Scotch whisky. You can buy a membership for yourself or for a friend or family member.
